MORENO VALLEY: Residents warned to protect pets from coyotes ...

Posted on | October 14, 2012 | Comments

Animal control officers have warned residents near Moreno Valley Ranch Golf Course to protect their pets from coyotes, which attacked at least one dog last month.

An unidentified pet owner told officers that three coyotes attacked his dog and ran away with it into the foothills after he released his dog from its leash to chase a ball on the golf course. The owner also said he saw two more coyotes but they weren?t part of the attack.

Pet owners should keep their pets close them on leashes when they walk them, especially near the foothills around the golf course.

Officers say no other recent pet attacks have been reported. On Oct. 5, a dead coyote was found at Indian Street and Gentian Avenue, officers said.

Officers say the golf course area is a coyote habitat and it?s common for coyotes to attack small pets that are left unattended.
